The fabrics used for this are SunSelect fabrics, which act as a UV sunscreen and are made of a special polyester or polyamide yarn and a different yarn, such as cotton, tencel, coolmax, bamboo or lycra.
The special polyester or polyamide yarn has a property that blocks most of the burning UV-B rays, but allows a sufficient percentage of the browning UV-A sunrays. The SunSelect fabrics work like a suncream.
